Waldorf Teaching Method
Waldorf Teaching Method
By Marcie Ciampi
The Waldorf teaching method is based on the works of Rudolf Steiner. You can find Waldorf Schools modeled after his philosophies all across the United States. In the Waldorf method, the teacher educates the whole child - "head, heart and hands" or "body, mind and spirit" The lessons are geared to the child's stage of development and corporate the intellectual, artistic, spiritual and movement elements of learning. Children participate in arts, crafts, music and movement and explore nature. Teachers focus on fostering self-awareness and reason in their students. The goal is to produce children who are able to independently impart meaning to their lives. Rhythm and consistency are very important. I have several friends who have had positive experience with the Waldorf schools.
