This is your "base list"; you'll be adding to the list.(20 - 30 minutes) *tip: you can trim down your list by eliminating words your child already knows. Homeschool Spelling Evaluation
1. Give a spelling pre-evaluation/practice evaluation the first day. Don’t call it a spelling “test”.2. Focus on spelling. Avoid pointing out errors in penmanship, letter formation, alignment of words on page, neatness, or numbering. 3. Use spelling words in context. Say the word once. Use the word in a sentence. Repeat the word. 4. Provide Variety. Alternate the test paper and writing utensils. Try different mediums such as: pen, chalk, marker, highlighter, graph paper, lined paper, computer, sidewalk, oral test. 5. Accentuate the Positive. Use praise to encourage the words the child spelled correctly. “You got ten words correct. Good Job.” “You only have five words you need to practice more.” 6. Write a new spelling list based on the words your child misspelled only. 7. Choose spelling activities to do throughout the week. 8. Give a post-evaluation 5-7 days later. 9. Transfer any words the child misspelled onto the next week’s list.
